Plastic Surgery Services:
Both cosmetic and reconstructive services are offered in my practice. My professor, Dr. Ralph Millard, taught me that the best plastic surgeons incorporate both. The cosmetic surgery teaches precision and finesse; the reconstructive surgery teaches creativity. A Plastic Surgeon can't have one without the other. RJP

"The principles and art of Plastic Surgery are intertwined. Reconstructive surgery requires creativity and innovation; aesthetic surgery demands finesse and attention to detail. The practice of Plastic Surgery is a fusion of both disciplines." RJP
CREDENTIALS
"The principals and art of Plastic Surgery cannot be communicated by books alone. I had the opportunity to study under a great teacher, and I feel obligated to pass on that knowledge to the students of the next generation."RJP
"Certification from a Board approved by the American Board of Medical Specialties assures patients that their physician has reached the highest level of academic competency."RJP
"To be elected into the American College of Surgeons, the candidate must undergo intensive peer review of both surgical ability and ethics."RJP AWARDS & BIOGRAPHICAL LISTINGS
Americas Top Doctors (7th ed) listed in Castle Connolly Medical Ltd www.castleconnolly.com and reported in "101 of Western New York's Top Docs," Buffalo Spree Magazine, January/February, 2008.
Best Doctors in America Baccelli Medical Club of Buffalo,
Best Doctors in America "To be the only Plastic Surgeon in Western New York selected for the Northeast edition (1996-7) and for the American edition (1998) is a great honor from my colleagues." RJP Strathmore's Who's Who Sterling's Who's Who A Personal Note on Selecting a Plastic Surgeon: "It is becoming more and more difficult for patients to identify which physician they should go to and whom they should trust. There are many who call themselves Plastic Surgeons who do not have the appropriate training and background. Select a Plastic Surgeon who is board certified in the specialty and this means the American Board of Plastic Surgery, which is recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialists. Your Plastic Surgeon should be a member in good standing with the American Society of Plastic Surgery whose ethics forbid him/her to publish before-and-after pictures in either advertisements or websites. Ideally your Plastic Surgeon should be a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons which allows him/her to append the title FACS. This demonstrates that his/her ethics have been examined and approved by peer review. "RJP

VOLUNTEER MISSIONS Citizen Ambassador Program to the Soviet Union, Hungary, & Czechoslovakia "On August 31, 1986, I was one of a group of twenty-three American Plastic Surgeons who traveled behind the Iron Curtain on a professional visit to medical schools, scientific institutions, and hospitals. The program was sponsored by the People to People Citizen Ambassador Program, an organization initiated by President Eisenhower to encourage communication between people of other nations." RJP Hospital des Ni?os, Lima, Peru "In 1983, I visited the Children's Hospital in Lima, Peru, to see and treat patients with congenital and traumatic problems and to exchange ideas with local physicians." RJP Hospital Infantil Robert Reid Cabral, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic "In 1989, I was part of a multidisciplinary team from the Craniofacial Center of Western New York to visit the Children's Hospital in the Dominican Republic. Our goal was to train local physicians in the care of children with cleft lip & palate and craniofacial disorders. This trip was sponsored in part by Sister's of Charity Hospital and Buffalo Children's Hospital." RJP PATIENT ADVOCACY Washington, D.C. 1999, 2006 "A difficult problem we face daily is the growing number of our patients who are unable to have surgery, because their insurance companies state that their conditions are "cosmetic," or do not meet their criteria for correcting a "functional deficit." This includes revision work on cleft lip & palate patients, reconstruction for microtia (underdeveloped ear), rhinoplasty for Hallerman-Streiff (bird-like facies) patients, and others. On September 12, 2006, I joined other Plastic Surgery colleagues from the Northeast in Washingon, D.C., to lobby for the Treatment of Children Deformities Act of 2005 (H.R. 1000/S. 1132), proposed by Reps. Sue Kelly (R-NY) and Carolyn McCarthy(D-NY). This bi-partisan legislation requires insurance companies to provide coverage for the treatment of a child's congenital or developmental deformity due to trauma, infection, tumor, or disease." RJP |
